A dense tree canopy

Hi, Subscribers. This blog uses the power of Play to guide our daily lives. Play can help you grow personally and professionally and helps to power up your creativity, problem-solving skills, and overall well-being. Let’s set ourselves up for success and inspiration, and remember to find joy in every step of our development.

It’s time for an accountability check-in. I have continued my five-minute tasks every day last week, though two days were more like three-minute tasks. I’m also noticing that my awareness of my thoughts is growing. I don’t remember what I was thinking, but I do remember asking myself why I thought that and if it was true. Spoiler alert. It wasn’t true 😅 I selected a location for my Disconnect to Reconnect in in-person offering and recorded some video. I have not created any art this week, but I did cull some older pieces. That’s the beauty of changing my lack thinking. I was able to release the old art because I am confident that I will make something new. Enjoying the process and recognizing that not everything is a stroke of genius is okay. What are your wins for the week?

This week, I’m continuing with THE LINEAGES OF CHANGE TAROT, Copyright © Lineages of Change (Adrienne maree brown, LLC; Alta Starr; chelsea cleveland; and Krista Franklin).

The Magician (Reversed): A bald woman wearing a beaded headband across her forehead. She is bathed in a golden light and there are rust colored rays behind her. Ancestral Wisdom (Reversed): Malcolm X, a tall, bespectacled Black Man wearing a suit and pointing to the pages in a book. To his left are two children sitting on a couch, but we only see one, a little Black girl, wearing a beautiful dress, looking on with her mouth agape. A collage of papers is behind them, and a sketch of a yellow ladder up top. The Godseed (Reversed): A Black Woman with long straight hair parted in the middle looks us in the eye. The left half of her face is covered by a seed that resembles a brain. The other half of the seeds hovers to the right. The background is yellow with intersecting black lines and a burst of red next to her head. Underneath are two more cards. The Six of Fire (Reversed): Three heads on one neck. One looks left, one straight, and one to the right. Flames of fire are above the heads, and a cool blue and green background with hints of red. Five of Earth. A sketch of a person in blue pants holding a bunch of coins. Some are falling. A shadow face looks behind. The cards are on a gold background with black stars and suns.

What is the challenge? The question in the description of the Ancestral Wisdom card is calling me out. “What do you know well enough to teach?” It’s not a question about being able to teach it, because I know the subject matter well. I struggle with practicing what I preach. This is why I hold myself accountable each time I post. I did not disconnect this week, but I did nap. My ancestors tried many businesses, and their community did not support them. However, they also built a community that supported young folk and we are only learning about the impact years later. Impact doesn’t pay the bills. I am seeing so many Black Women creators having to do the exhausting work of hosting GoFundMe pages to make ends meet. It doesn’t have to be this way. We can co-create the Magician’s vision together.

What can help? What was your last win? Even if it was just making your bed. You did that. If you are reading this, you have managed to keep yourself alive until you were today years old. The Godseed reminds us that we contain the seeds of our creation and destruction. I remember a random YouTube video talking about how our food sometimes gives us hints about its purpose. They said that a walnut resembles a brain and is helpful for brain functioning. I don’t know if the seed on the card is a walnut or an acorn, but it is interesting to me how one half is separated, exposing half of the face of the woman. Magic is taking action on focused intention. You must also believe that it can be done. Make a list of your accomplishments. It’s important not to judge them. Like I said, making your bed counts. Take a moment to bask in what you have done. It is a reminder that you have done things, can do things, and WILL do more. Will you plant the seeds of your success or your demise? My kids are joking with me that I am going to write my own obituary. It’s a great exercise that I learned from Yinka Ewuola. Write your story before others revise it.

What is a way forward? Two cards jumped out to help advise us. The Six of Fire reversed, and our friend the Five of Earth returns. These cards are polar opposites. The Six of Fire is commonly associated with victory, and the Five of Earth with scarcity thinking. Both cards feature many-headed people; the Six of Fire looks at us while its other two heads face in either direction, like the past, present, and future. The Five of Earth has a head looking at us in profile while it holds onto a pile of gold, and its alternative head looks back. Where do you want to place your focus? Will you only remember your failures and double down on what you lack? Or will you focus on your success and strive to improve? Growth is never one and done. When you graduate, you pursue a higher degree or learn a trade. Only you can extinguish your flame. Choose wisely. Namaste
