Hi, friends 👋🏽. I’m Stacy Casson, Chief Play Officer at Things to Think About, LLC. With over twenty years of continuous improvement experience, I’ve learned to stay calm in a crisis—unless you’re that jerk in the white Tesla who doesn’t understand how indicators work. Get ready with me!
Is your calendar packed to the gills? Are you constantly double or triple-booked? Do you groan when your alarm goes off? You don’t have to face the overwhelm alone. I write this blog to help us get ready for the week ahead. As Dan Martell says, “A problem well defined is a problem half-solved.”
This week, we will seek inspiration from Affirmators! At Work written by Suzi Barrett and illustrated by Naomi Sloman.
Step 1: Celebrate Your Wins
Pause for a moment:
What’s one thing you accomplished this week—big or small?
Did you finish a project?
Organize a drawer?
Make it through a tough meeting?
This week, I finally finished painting my piece, “Abort the Patriarchy.” I completed my first batch of fruit cakes and organized my closet. Sharing your wins helps your brain recognize your success. According to Ell Graniel, physically sharing your accomplishments is important.
Drop your win in the comments or share it with a friend!
Step 2: Focus Your Awareness
Quick reflection:
What value do you bring to your work or community?
When was the last time you helped someone, even in a small way?
Sometimes I wonder about my own value, but then I remember helping a small businessperson save thousands of dollars, or supporting my colleagues in a high-paced environment.
Challenge: For the next hour, notice when you downplay your skills or make a self-deprecating remark. Write it down. Awareness is the first step to change.
Step 3: Check Your Mental Story
Ask yourself:
What story are you telling yourself about your worth or your resources?
Is it helping you, or holding you back?
Scarcity thinking feeds into overwhelm. If you don’t value yourself, you’re likely to short-sell yourself. I still twist myself in knots sometimes, wondering if I’m on the right track.
Mini-exercise: Write down one limiting belief you have about money, time, or your abilities. Now, rewrite it as a positive possibility for the week ahead.
Step 4: Take One Small Action
Try this:
Make a “to-don’t” list. What’s one thing you’ll say no to this week?
Pick one task you’ve been avoiding and do it for just five minutes.
This week, I realized that multitasking left dishes in the sink and ideas unfinished. When I finally wrote down my webinar outline, I slept better than I had in ages. Progress, not perfection!
Share your action step below or with someone you trust.
Step 5: Listen and Reset
Morning challenge:
Tomorrow, when you wake up, don’t grab your phone. Take a few deep breaths and think of one thing you’re grateful for.
Listening is more than hearing—it’s conscious attention. Notice the stories you tell yourself that make you feel small or stuck. If you want to be better at something, teach it. If you want more peace, give yourself five minutes of calm. Namaste
