Happy Monday, or whatever Monday you choose.
Even though we are reaching the end of 2018, if you turn on the news, there are many surprises. These are times of uncertainty and perhaps a time of vulnerability. The good news is that discomfort can be an excellent opportunity for growth. A seedling has to push through the dirt burying it to reach the sunlight and be able to grow. Maybe we need to be shaken out of our complacency. Meet Manny Jer. Manny has been a leader for many years and is in charge of a competent team. Manny mentors the team, but lately, things have become very routine. Manny is becoming complacent and overly confident in the skills achieved over the years.
But, and there is always a but - the team is badgering Manny to try some new things. Manny has not been at that awkward learning stage for many years. However, Manny listens to the team and together, they explore new technologies and strategies. Manny finds that the experience gathered over the years can be implemented in new and exciting ways. Manny learns from the group and in turn, shares knowledge with them. You can teach all the dogs new tricks.
Because they are using the shakeup of change, Manny's team stands out. They are given challenging opportunities and are able to overcome. They become movers and shakers. Quite a few of Manny's people are promoted, and despite the economic uncertainty, Manny gets a raise. Manny wants to mentor the new people on the team, and the rest of the team is such a cohesive unit, that new members are integrated very quickly.
What's next? Because Manny has become comfortable with both the strengths and vulnerabilities, Manny is at ease with being Manny. Manny no longer views the team as competition. Manny has grown exponentially and no longer works or make choices because of fear. Manny now seeks out the challenges and regularly shakes things up to keep the team sharp. Manny's tale is only a modern-day fable, but it is the stories we tell ourselves that drive our actions. Now go live happily ever after.
