It is good to remind yourself of your wins. This week, I successfully co-facilitated a six-hour training at work. I am also thrilled that someone gifted one of my Overcoming Overwhelm Sessions. The kids and I watched Lawrence of Arabia on the big screen, and it was epic. Reflecting on your wins can make you feel proud and accomplished. What were your wins of the week?
This week, I’m using Spiritual AF by Roxan McDonald and keeping it short and sweet.
What should we consider for the week ahead? “NOT GIVE A FUCK IS BETTER THAN REVENGE.” I know I waste a lot of time being angry about silly things, mainly @$$hole drivers. You will encounter people who press your buttons if you let them. Will you stew about it and raise your blood pressure? Will that help the situation?
What is really happening? “QUIT DIMMING YOUR LIGHT FOR PEOPLE WITH SHITTY-ASS MINDSETS.” Will you accept the invitation to every argument? Many times our response is a reflection of our inner world. Instead of being mad about what someone said or did, question our response. I don’t remember which of my brilliant friends said that they wouldn't value someone’s opinion if that person is not directly responsible for their financial situation. Last week, a customer answered a survey and listed their name as an expletive. I almost wish I had responded to Mr. or Mrs. You 😈. Instead, I recognized their frustration had nothing to do with me. When we choose to engage in arguments, we lose our peace. I loved my friend Yinka Ewuola’s strategy for ruining sadness by embracing joy.
What can help? “YOU ARE A PRODUCT OF WHAT YOU BELIEVE.” Our mindset makes all the difference. I personally want to remain as unbothered as this AI granny built to thwart scammers. She remains calm while the callers become angrier and more frustrated. She never raises her voice and is unfailingly kind to them. Shifting one’s mindset empowers you and reduces overwhelm allowing you to respond instead of react. Who knows, maybe the scammers have been human trafficked and are forced to call and trick people. I love Roxan’s expansion on the card, “If you think you’re a turd, you’re probably going to act like a turd, treat yourself like a turd, and accept turd treatment from others.” Like the Oingo Boingo song, “Who do you want to be today?” (or next week?)
What is a way forward? “YOUR BRAIN SPEAK TOTAL FUCKERY UNLESS YOU TURN YOUR SOUL ON.” What fills your soul? Do you make time to tune in and listen to your inner wisdom? This past week, I received answers and revelations very early in the morning, before my alarm went off. Embracing quiet times helps you increase positivity, not only bringing answers but also a sense of fulfillment. Take a moment to pause before answering, so you can respond thoughtfully instead of reacting. Namaste
